(HealthDay News) — Metalworking involves using metals to create parts, assemblies or large-scale structures. As a job that requires a unique set of skills, it provides special hazards, as well, says Cornell University.

General metal work safety guidelines are:

  1. Wear eye protection at all times.

  2. Remove or secure jewelry, long hair and loose clothing.

  3. Avoid skin contact with metalworking fluid.

  4. Remove all metal scraps with a brush. Never by hand.
